Rex is part of the family, but for some reason has for years been frowned upon in hotels. Well, things are looking up and an increasing number of hotels are opening their doggy-doors and welcoming your furry family member with open arms. The trick is finding the hotels, understanding their rules and planning a trip that is pet friendly. After all, what is the point in bringing your pet if they spend all of their time alone in an unfamiliar room. Think of family friendly activities that can be enjoyed by everyone. Parks are always a welcome respite and an excellent way to burn off nervous energy, but neighborhood dog parks and pet shops are a better way for your pet to truly enjoy this vacation as much as you. Here they have the opportunity to play off-leash, meet other dogs and you might be surprised by how much you enjoy meeting people who share your interests. Not only will he have a ball, but you are likely to learn about the hidden gems in the neighborhood for dining, drinks and entertainment.
Remember, dog lovers tend to spend time outdoors and often times enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Bike shops, climbing stores, roller-blade shops all typically welcome your pup with open arms and even offer fresh water when you enter. Generally, the shop staff love dogs and can't wait to take a break from work and play while you browse and shop. In the end, you had a chance to get some shopping done, brought Rex along for the ride and, best of all, everyone had a great time. The only way this day could be topped would be to pack a family picnic, head to the park and chow down. This is a great way to include him throughout the day, get some fresh air and save a little money while your at it. Not too shabby.
Don't forget to bring along a leash, collar and all identification and inoculation information. Also, be sure to bring along a mat, pillow, blanket, bed or whatever else your pooch likes to sleep with. Making sure that your dog is comfortable and surrounded by familiar things like toys will go along way to ensuring that he will be happy and content when you go off to dinner, a museum or amusement park where they are still not allowed...at least not yet!
